Armistice Day

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month - we will remember them

The Armistice, an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War, began at 11am on 11th November.

World War 1 began on 28th July 1914 and most people assumed that the War would be finished by Christmas. In fact, the First World War lasted for four years.

More than 70 million men from 30 countries fought in WW1. By the time the war ended, around 15 to 22 million people had been killed worldwide.

The First World War ended on 11th November 1918.
