Posted on 22/02/2023 by Evolve in News

This month, Talking Life visited the offices to provide training to our carers on County Lines.

What is County Lines?

County Lines is where illegal drugs are transported from one area to another, usually by children or vulnerable people who are coerced into it by gangs.

The term ‘County Line’ is the mobile phone lines used to take the orders of drugs.

A common feature in county lines drugs supply is the exploitation of young and vulnerable people. The dealers will frequently target children and adults (often with mental health or addiction problems) to act as drug runners or to move cash.

People exploited in this way will quite often by exposed to physical, mental and sexual abuse and in some instances will be trafficked to areas a long way from home.

Below are some of the signs to look out for:

  • An increase of visitors and cars to a house or flat
  • Substance misuse and/or drug paraphernalia
  • Changes in the way young people you know might dress
  • Unexplained, sometimes unaffordable new things (clothes, jewellery, etc)
  • Young people seen in different cars/taxis driven by unknown adults
  • Unexplained injuries
  • Truancy, exclusion and disengagement from school

If you have any concerns, you can speak to the police by dialling 101, or in an emergency 999

If you would rather remain anonymous, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
