The Ameen Group
The Ameen group are from Pakistan and requested a loan £4,303.32 to purchase and install a solar tube well of 7.5 kilowatts consisting of 14 large solar panels.
The Ameen group consists of 7 members living in the area of Kasur. This group members are all smallholder farmers and they are between 20 and 53 years old. The group has a joint total of 25 dependents in their households. There is a total of 18 children, 4 are infants, 8 children are school going children while others are learning skills. All group members are married.
One of the group members is Gulfam Ahmad. He is 53 years old and married with two boys and two daughters. Two of them are getting education while others are engaged in farming. His wife takes care of the household chores. He farms around 5 acres of land, planting wheat in the winter and rice in the summer. On average, he estimates that he earns around £1,102 profit per year in total. He and the other group members use a tube well that runs on diesel. It costs them around £67 to buy enough diesel to irrigate just one acre of rice and about £65 for a similar wheat area. The group all know each other and have come together to apply for a loan to purchase and install a solar tube well of 7.5 kilowatts consisting of 14 large solar panels. This will be a much more cost-effective way to irrigate their land as well as being better for the environment.
