Van is a 53-year-old widow living in the district of Nong Cong of Thanh Hoa province in Vietnam's north central coast region. Her husband passed away early due to a serious illness, and she has raised her two children alone; now both are grown and have stable jobs.
Van exemplifies resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Following her husband's passing, she has taken on both the emotional burden and financial responsibility of providing for her children and ensuring their education. To support her family, she works as a domestic helper for households in the nearby area.
In addition to her job, she has ventured into livestock farming to supplement her income. Using local resources such as free grass and rice straw, she raises calves and sells them to middlemen once they reach marketable size. However, she lacks the necessary savings to invest further in her animal business. To address this, she has applied to Thanh Hoa MFI, our local partner in Vietnam, for a loan, which she plans to repay in 18 monthly instalments.
