I became a foster carer after my divorce, it was something I always wanted to do but my ex-husband wasn’t keen.
I found the assessment process quite invasive and thought provoking, I chose to foster teenage girls as I was a single mother with two daughters and didn’t feel that I had enough support around me for boys.
Over my time I was able to foster 22 teenage girls, I loved every minute of it. Most of the girls I fostered are now adults with children of their own and it has been a pleasure watching them flourish in the outside world.
Although at times it was very challenging and with the support of my SSW I was able to try new strategies and ways of working, she was an excellent source of knowledge
So much so, that I chose to change my career and become a SSW supporting other foster carers in this role
